A motorcycle intercom transforms how you ride — whether you want to stay connected with a pillion, ride in a group, stream music, or use GPS navigation hands-free. Cardo is the world leader in motorcycle Bluetooth communication systems, and this guide will help you choose the right Cardo unit for your riding style.
Why Cardo?
Cardo pioneered DMC (Dynamic Mesh Communication) technology, which allows multiple riders to maintain a seamless group mesh network — unlike traditional Bluetooth pairing, riders can join and leave the group without interrupting everyone else. Cardo systems are also known for excellent audio quality, with JBL speakers in many premium models.
Cardo Product Lines Explained
Freecom Series
The entry-level and mid-range Cardo line. Freecom units offer reliable Bluetooth communication for solo riders and small groups. Great value for commuters and occasional tourers who primarily want music streaming, phone calls, and rider-to-pillion communication. The Freecom 2nd Helmet Kit is an easy way to add a second rider to your existing setup.
Packtalk Series
Cardo’s flagship line featuring DMC mesh technology for seamless group riding. The Packtalk range is ideal for group tours, adventure riding, and any scenario where you're riding with multiple other cyclists.
- Packtalk Neo: The current sweet spot of value and features in the Packtalk lineup. Includes DMC mesh, JBL speakers, and Natural Voice Operation. The Packtalk Neo 2nd Helmet Kit with JBL lets you easily add a second helmet.
- Packtalk Bold: A proven performer with full DMC mesh and JBL audio. The Packtalk Bold 2nd Helmet Kit with JBL is popular for couples and riding pairs.

Key Questions to Ask Before Buying
Solo rider or group?
If you mainly ride solo or with one other person, a Freecom unit is excellent value. If you regularly ride in groups of 3+, invest in a Packtalk with DMC mesh — the riding experience is in a different league.
What helmet do you have?
Most Cardo units fit any helmet via a universal clamp or adhesive mount. However, if you ride in a Leatt or LS2 helmet, check for the integrated helmet-specific Cardo kits above for the cleanest install.
Audio quality priority?
All Packtalk models include JBL by Harman speakers. If audio quality matters (music, podcasts, navigation), the Packtalk range is the clear choice. Replacement Cardo 40mm HD Speakers are also available if you want to upgrade older units.
Pillion or solo?
If you carry a passenger regularly, look for a 2nd Helmet Kit to add a second unit at a lower combined price. The Cardo Packtalk Outdoor Sports Band is also a versatile option for mixed sport activities beyond motorcycling.
Installation Tips
- Most Cardo units take 15–30 minutes to install — no tools required for the clamp mount
- Position speakers directly over your ears inside the helmet padding for best sound
- For full-face helmets, route the microphone boom arm to sit 1–2cm from your mouth
- Charge fully before first use and update firmware via the Cardo Connect app
